The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management, otherwise known as OASAM, is an agency operating within the United States Department of Labor that is primarily responsible for the promulgation and development of policies, standards, procedures, systems, and materials that are associated with resource and administrative management of the department.

The efforts of OASAM are constantly guided by its agency mission which is "provide leadership and support for departmental business operations and procurement; budget and finance; information technology; human resources and civil rights; security and emergency management; and strategic planning."

In addition to all its existing program, OASAM has established another funding opportunity to support the Project to Combat Rural Exploitative Child Labor In Peru.

The project aims to alleviate or totally eliminate the cases of exploitative child labor in agriculture, mining, and other hazardous work environments in the regions of Peru.

The Project to Combat Rural Exploitative Child Labor In Peru aims to realize its objectives by improving the Peruvian children's access to quality education, sustainable livelihoods for them and their families, and program that will help their household overcome the need to make their children work just to meet their family's basic needs.

The major factors that prompted the establishment of this program are the studies showing that in the year 2008, 215 million children were engaged in child labor, wherein 115 million of them were involved in hazardous work.   (continued...)
